Scar Therapy Treatments
After surgeries or injuries, our bodies form scar tissue as part of the natural healing process. This denser, less elastic tissue replaces the damaged area but can restrict movement and create discomfort in surrounding regions. Scar tissue can also attach to other structures and organs, causing ongoing issues unrelated to the original injury.
Scar Therapy Shepperton
At Level 5 Therapies, Scar Therapy is a gentle, hands-on treatment for Caesarean, surgical and injury scars. Using specialised scar massage, soft tissue techniques and self-care advice, treatment aims to improve the mobility, comfort and appearance of scar tissue while supporting the surrounding tissues. It can also help improve the appearance and texture of a scar.
Scars are a normal part of healing, but they can sometimes continue to cause problems long after the original injury or surgery has healed.
A scar is more than just the visible mark on the skin. Scar tissue can affect the layers underneath, creating tightness, pulling sensations, discomfort and restricted movement. Some people experience pain, numbness, itching or sensitivity around the scar, while others notice problems in completely different areas of the body that may be linked to the scar itself.
Scar Therapy can help to:
- Reduce pain, sensitivity and discomfort
- Improve tightness and pulling sensations
- Increase movement and flexibility in the surrounding tissues
- Reduce itching, numbness and altered sensation
- Improve the appearance and texture of the scar
- Support confidence and body awareness after surgery or injury
Treatment can usually begin from around 8 weeks after surgery or injury, once healing is complete. However, scars do not have an expiry date. Many people are surprised to discover that scars that are years or even decades old can still respond positively to treatment.
Scar Therapy after Caesarean Birth
Many women are told that once their Caesarean birth scar has healed, there is nothing more that needs to be done. However, Caesarean scars (often referred to as C-section scars) can remain tight, sensitive or uncomfortable for months or even years afterwards.
The scar itself can feel numb, itchy or tender while deeper restrictions can contribute to pulling sensations, reduced abdominal mobility, lower back discomfort or a feeling that the area never quite returned to normal after surgery.
Scar Therapy focuses on improving the mobility of both the scar and the tissues underneath. Treatment is always gentle and tailored to your stage of recovery and comfort level.
Whether your scar is a few months old or many years old, Scar Therapy may help improve comfort, movement and confidence in your body.
Scar Therapy for Surgical Scars
Any surgical procedure can leave scar tissue that affects the way the surrounding tissues move and function. This can include scars from knee replacement surgery, hip replacement surgery, abdominal surgery, hysterectomy, appendectomy, breast surgery and many other procedures.
While some scars heal with few problems, others can become raised, tight, sensitive or restricted. Scar tissue may also contribute to stiffness and discomfort around the surgical area.
Scar Therapy aims to improve the mobility and flexibility of the scar and surrounding tissues, helping to reduce discomfort and support recovery. Treatment is suitable for both recent and older scars and is adapted to your individual needs and goals.
