Soft Tissue Therapy / Sports Massage
Soft Tissue Therapy goes beyond a simple massage; it involves the assessment, treatment, and management of soft tissue injuries, pain, and discomfort across our muscles, tendons, ligaments and fascia (connective tissue). Our primary goal is to ease muscular tension, reduce pain, improve joint movement and flexibility, and aid recovery from sporting or daily activities.
Everybody is different as it will depend on your individual needs, lifestyle and how long you have been experiencing your issue. We will discuss this with you in more detail during the initial consultation.
Please wear clothing that feels comfortable to stretch in, with suitable underwear (for women, this includes a non-sports bra).
Shorts are generally fine, providing they stretch or are loose. Please note that we will also use towels during your treatment.
The answer will depend on your goals. Some athletes have monthly maintenance sessions when they are training less, increasing the frequency as their training volume and intensity builds.
The solution is always about finding what is right for you to reduce muscle tension and keep you injury-free. This is something we’ll discuss during your first assessment.
Some techniques we use may cause slight discomfort and possible soreness to achieve the best outcome. If you find the pressure is too much for you, we can adjust the treatment to make it slightly more comfortable for you. Your honest feedback will also be important, so we can work together to get the best result for you, as comfortably as possible.
You may feel tired after the massage, so it is recommended that you don’t go and do anything vigorous. If the massage has been deeper tissue, some clients may experience some post-treatment soreness, but this will disappear after a day or two, don’t worry about this as it’s normally a sign. It is recommended that you drink plenty of water after your treatment, so you feel hydrated.
A Physiotherapist is diagnostic as an Allied Health Professional, as a Soft Tissue Therapist we do not diagnose, we offer a ‘hands on’ treatment with potential exercise and rehabilitation advise.
Absolutely. We believe that this treatment is for everyone, and a regular massage is not only relaxing but is an excellent way of preventing injury.
Scar Therapy
Restore Scar Therapy is a non-invasive manual therapy designed to treat scar tissue, fibrosis, and adhesions that form when underlying layers of skin become stuck together. This can help with pain and an improvement in overall movement and posture.
The number of treatments will depend on the individual and the complications involved. The age and size of the scar is a factor as is the outcome required and your budget. Clients can often see and feel improvements after 1 or 2 sessions, although 4 to 8 sessions are usually recommended. This will be discussed at your first session and will depend on your required outcome and budget.
Everyone is different, but a scar can take up to two years to reach maturity. Your body is a living being...changes happen constantly... don’t be surprised if it takes longer for a larger scar to heal.
There are many ways that you can positively influence the way your scar heals. If you are ready to, we can show you how to self-massage your scar.
Yes! It does not matter how old your scar is. Scar therapy is gentle and effective and can still functionally help older scars and the surrounding areas feel better.
Scar therapy is safe and is not painful. All the massage-based techniques are gentle and rely on light touch only. We do not “friction” techniques on or around the scar. The treatment should feel comfortable and should never hurt.
Sensations like these can occur but are not pleasant. Scar therapy can help reduce these sensations. We offer a holistic approach to scar recovery. We can show you self-massage techniques, discuss postural and lifestyle advice to improve the way your body moves after surgery.
Yes it can. After surgery, nerves are sometimes cut and the body is healing itself. Also, the individual may not feel “connected” to that part of the body, where surgery has occurred, and so not want to touch the scar. Scar therapy can help with numbness and decreased sensation, using “feather light” touch. This can also help the individual re connect with that body part.
After surgery and up to two years after surgery, the scar is still healing and recovering. The redness should subside, but if it doesn’t then scar therapy could help make a difference.
